Your matters already know who needs the letter. Connect Smokeball to MatterSnail and a certified mailing starts from the matter: every party on it addressed in one step, the PDF pulled from the matter's files, sent as USPS Certified Mail, First-Class, or Priority the same business day when submitted before the 12:00 p.m. Pacific cutoff, and can be posted back as an expense with a memo. No exporting, no re-typing, no trip to the post office.

Pick the matter and every party on it joins the mailing, each labeled with their role. Anyone Smokeball holds no mailable address for is listed too, so you see who was left out before the letters go, not after.

The cost lands back on the matter
Once the mailing can no longer be canceled, MatterSnail posts its total cost to the matter as a single expense, with an activity code if you want one, and files a memo recording that the letter was mailed. Each is a choice on every mailing, and a canceled mailing never reaches Smokeball.

Built for the firm, not just the sender
Included on every plan
No add-on and no extra fee. The Free plan has no monthly fee and up to 3 users; each mailing costs a service charge per recipient plus postage and any printing or add-ons, itemized line by line before you submit.
Per user, under your control
Each person connects their own Smokeball account under Settings and can disconnect at any time. MatterSnail reads Smokeball only while someone connects, searches, or browses it from MatterSnail, and copies in only what they pick for a mailing.
Firm-wide defaults
An owner or administrator can switch the expense and the memo on by default for new mailings, and whoever submits can still change either on any single mailing.

Common questions
What can MatterSnail do with my Smokeball account?
It reads your firm name, contacts and their addresses, matters and the parties on them, the files on a matter, and your activity codes, and only while you are using Smokeball from MatterSnail: connecting, searching, or browsing. The only things it writes are the expense and the memo you ask it to post to a matter.
Can I address every party on a matter at once?
Yes. Pick the matter and MatterSnail adds every party on it to the mailing, each labeled with their role. Anyone Smokeball holds no mailable address for is listed too, so you see who was left out before the letters go.
When does the expense reach the Smokeball matter?
Once the mailing can no longer be canceled. If the expense is switched on for that mailing, MatterSnail then posts the mailing's total cost to the matter as a single expense, with an activity code if you chose one. If the memo is switched on, it also files a memo recording that the letter was mailed. A canceled mailing never reaches Smokeball.
How long does the Smokeball connection last?
Smokeball grants access for 180 days at a time, and using it does not extend that. The settings page shows the date your access runs out and reminds you as it gets close. Connecting again starts a new 180 days, and you can disconnect at any time.
